How You Can Build A Business In Just 5 MonthsI’ve been studying how to improve my headlines lately so I hope this one really got your attention.  Don’t worry, it isn’t just hype because in this post I’ll show you step by step how you can build a business in just 5 months.

Hopefully you all are aware of my journey of building my affiliate marketing business from scratch.  The is my 27th post on this blog and in almost all of them I’m sharing what I have been doing each week to get to where I am today.

To save you the trouble of going back through every single one of my posts, I’m going to go back through exactly every step I’ve taken to build my business from scratch and how I’m generating income online today.  Okay, so are you ready to just dive in?

Building a Real Business

First off, my goal is to build a business not just promote affiliate products through Clickbank or any other affiliate program.  So what this means is that it’s in your best interest to have your own product.  But don’t panic, I’ll show you how you can accomplish this task as well.

Now having your own product will begin your journey of building a name for yourself.  Sure, you can go the route of just promoting affiliate products if you want but you know that eventually if you want to have some pull, you’re going to have to put yourself out there and it depends on which niche you are interested in pursuing as to what kind of product you want your name to be attached to!

So you can start by either purchasing a product with resale rights and go that direction, which by the way is what my New Super Affiliate product entails, or you can hire someone to create one for you.  Another option is you can interview someone who is very popular in the niche you are interesting in pursuing and make that interview your first product.  Either way, that’s the best way to start.  So once you have your product in place, where do you go from here?

Let the Fun Begin

Step 1:
Get your website and autoresponder series in place.  This means you will have to purchase a few domain names, sign up with a hosting account and get an autoresponder service (and yes, these are my affiliate links so if you do sign up I will make a commission).

Step 2:
Get your accounts set up at:

It might take you a little while to get all of this into place but I wouldn’t drag my feet and I wouldn’t give myself more than two weeks tops to get this all into place.

Step 3:
The next step is to start generating content.  You will need to start writing blog posts and articles.  The articles are mainly for getting backlinks to your sites and not necessarily for traffic.  Either way, you will need to put some time into creating content and you need to be consistent.  Set a schedule and stick with it.  This is SO important.

Step 4:
Start shooting some videos, even if you just start out with PowerPoint presentations.  Doing screen capture videos and teaching other people how to do certain things is so powerful, but in the beginning, not a necessity.  You just need to start getting something going.

Step 5:

Once you have some content up and videos shot, it’s time to start driving traffic to your sites.  You can do this through:

Once you have started implementing all of the above, you will start seeing traffic come to your blog and your site which will lead to opt-ins and sales.

Here are my stats to date:

  • December I made 2 sales = $54
  • January I made 1 sale = $27
  • February I made 2 sales = $74
  • March I made 4 sales = $108
  • April I made 4 sales = $128

That’s a total of $391 over a 5 month period.  So you can see how it’s slowly progressing.  Once you start entering giveaways and joining other joint ventures, you will start getting more traffic to your site, your list will continue to grow and you will start making even more sales.

My stats for the number of visitors I’ve received to all three of my sites is well into the thousands but I know that everyone’s numbers whether it’s traffic, opt-ins or sales will be different.  Want to know why?

Because it all depends on the amount of time and dedication you are willing to put into this project.

  • How consistent will you be with writing content and posting it online?
  • How many videos will you shoot and put up?
  • How many blogs will you visit and start commenting?
  • How much time are you willing to dedicate?
  • How much money are you willing to invest?
  • How much effort are you willing to put into building a business?

These are all questions only you can answer but just from my results alone, you can see that I’m well on my way to building a business for myself.  13 sales and only $391 may not seem like much to some people, but it’s a heck of a lot more than a lot of people have ever made here online.  By continuing to learn, grow and implement the strategies and methods you learn, your business will continue to move upwards.  There is no doubt in my mind.  But it’s all up to you and no one else can do that for you.

What Are You Willing To Do

So here are a few question for you.

  • What are you willing to do in order to build your own business whether it’s affiliate marketing, internet marketing, social media marketing or network marketing?
  • What kind of time and effort are you willing to put in?
  • What kind of investment are you willing to make in yourself?
  • What kind of investment are you willing to put into your education?

Only you can answer those questions but I would love to hear what you are doing online and what type of business you are involved in.  How are you doing and what type of progress have you made?  Have you been working it non-stop?  Have you seen consistent growth?  Are your profits rising?

No, I don’t want to necessarily get into your personal business but I would be curious to know how you are progressing online and what you’ve learned from this experience.  Please, do share and leave your comments.  You know how much I appreciate your input and your honesty!  You help me move forward and continue to grow and learn so I thank you for that!

Think I’ve covered enough on this subject for now.  So I’ll sign off and look forward to hearing from each and every one of you.  Thank you again for your time.

I am leading a couple of blogs. Some are on my native language, hence totally different rules apply for those. I am looking into incorporing affiliate strategy into main english blogs. Its hard for non american citizen to get admited into aff networks, so I stick with amazon associates, where I earned 4$, from one non related sale, from single link.

I intend to include more amazon links, they seem to convert more often, because of thrust factor. What are your thoughts on amazon?

I don’t promote Amazon products but have heard a lot of really good things from other people about building niche sites around Amazon products. I say go with works best for you. Hey Shivam…

You are right, you can’t ONLY write blog posts. You need to be doing other methods for driving traffic to your site like I suggested. Putting together other Web 2.0 properties and writing unique content is another great way to go. Since Google’s Panda announcement, I have cut back on my article writing, but I’m still driving targeted traffic to my site. Maybe you can share with us what you are doing. My readers love hearing how everyone else is having success.

    Hi Adrienne,

This is really awesome, I’m happy for you ;) For me personally, I have created three products (e-books) so far. I do most of what you listed such as marketing on twitter, facebook, commenting, building relationships online, article directories and SEO. Now, 70% of my traffic comes from google which I’m excited about and it is increasing. The key is consistent growth even it is slow. My sales are increasing as well although I’m no where I want to be, but I’m getting there. Doing guest posts is really crucial. I have been busy the past month or so, hence I haven’t done any, but I’m going to get back on track. Thanks for sharing Adrienne, excellent post :)

    • Adrienne says:

      Hey Dia,

Thanks for stopping by and for your comment. You are a great example of how to create a business (your eBooks) and that by doing what I laid out that I’ve been doing, you are seeing the traffic and you are making the sales. It is a slow process but in the end, isn’t it so worth it! I think most people expect to start getting instant results and that’s not always going to be the case. Patience is the key and that’s something I’ve never been good with. But I’m getting there.

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it. Finding time to write guest posts is difficult. I’m being invited now but finding the time is hard! Prioritize, that’s the key!

I love PLR, when it’s current and up to date that is so I’m sure you will do very well in that area. I’m so impressed and would love to check out some of your stuff. I am speechless to be honest. Another thing that amazes me Adrienne is …. LOOK at your Alexa!! 27 posts … my goodness girl. You are an absolute rocker.

People who love Facebook and are your friends will support you. Also people who want to learn what you have to share will like your page. Your blog posts are so much easier to find. Just incorporate your posts to automatically post and you’re done. It’s really that easy.

I’m so flattered that you can actually learn something from me. Seriously!!! Promoting affiliate products is another great source of income, especially when you know the product is good and will benefit your prospect. Because people already know, like and trust you, they will stand up and pay attention to what you are sharing.

  22. Adrienne,

You have the tenacity it takes. Look at all those questions; gosh. You know, sometimes we have to stop and appreciate the weight of all the questions we should be asking ourselves before we continue on.

Things on my end have been busy and the profits have been steadily on the rise. Site ranking has improved as has traffic but the old Alexa score in the U.S. sometimes does a funny dance. Such is life and you can’t base too much on that metric.

Lately I’ve been thinking about the future quite a bit more than normal. I’ve been giving it some deep thought so that I make quality decisions now.

Anyway, you’re living proof that real money can be earned online without the scams and gimmicks. Great credit to you for being a reputable example of what’s possible :)

I can give you some advice really quickly about how you can make some improvements to your blog if you are open. You need to put up an opt-in box and start capturing leads. You need to offer them some free information that will entice them into getting on your list. From there you continue to build a relationship with them through your newsletter or whatever else you care to offer and then only promote products to them that would be beneficial and geared toward your niche is. Just because people may not want your coaching service doesn’t mean you can’t help them in another way. There could be eBooks, reports, video tutorials, podcasts, something related to your specific niche that they may find helpful and beneficial if they feel they can’t afford your services or just may not be ready for them at this time. Make sense? Hope that helped…

  26. Hi Adrienne,

I work a lot at blogging, rather than internet marketing. I work hard to build back links and improve my rank. Next is the money making. It has been slow, I admit, but I hope for great things this year because I feel I have laid very solid foundations. I think too many people want to have it all straight away and spend too little time on the foundations of their business. I have shops offline and an ebay business selling physical products, but I guess I spend around 8 hours a day most days online, working.

    Enjoy the journey.

I have seen you around a lot so your work is paying off. If I remember correctly, I believe I found you on Barry Wells’ blog and he’s someone I admire so I pay attention to people he thinks highly of, which is you.

It does take time to build things up and that also includes our reputation. That’s very important in this industry because people will ban you in a heartbeat if they don’t believe you are real or genuine in your efforts. But again, these things just take time and patience. But it will definitely pay off in the end.

Thank you Marcus, I appreciate that! This has been the journey I’ve been on and I’m into my sixth month. These are the exact steps I’ve taken and I share my results at the end of each month. People like proof that something works which is why I enjoy helping others realize that with just a little time and effort on their part, they can start building their own business in no time at all.

Thank you for dropping by and for your comment, I appreciate it!

Great post. I like how you actually show your earnings as well.

I think that makes the post a little more legit. Great start so far.

Those are affiliate sales? I am working on that right now as well. It’s a tough go to get the money coming it but I am sure it will happen with time.

Just don’t know how you find soo much time to write all those posts and on 3 blogs! I don’t even have time to do it on one let alone 3.

Great to see you over here Michael.

I wanted to portray my honest journey of what it takes to build an affiliate marketing business so I share it all here. At the end of each month I show all my results and yes, those are my sales for my affiliate product. It’s work but it’s worth it.

I’m only writing each week on two blogs, this one and my main one. The other ones I have are for my affiliate products for different niches and I don’t write on those like I do these. But two is enough, thank you! I usually write my posts late at night after everything else has been done.

Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it!

  29. Hi Adrienne, only take 5 months? Really? I’m a beginner in this field. I truly appreciate your step-by-step advice. I’ll apply it on my work. Thank you very much, Adrienne.

  34. Hi Adrienne,

Thank you for laying out the steps in an informative, easy to understand fashion. I am going to implement a few steps I have neglected (FB FanPage) and hopefully increase revenue.

You are so welcome Sandi and I’m happy to hear that some of this information I’ve shared you have found helpful. I neglected my FB Fan Page as well but finally got that up. It is the best place on FB to really share with your friends more about your business and is acceptable. I don’t doubt that you will have great luck with that one.

I appreciate your comment and thank for stopping by.

As you can see, my traffic continues to increase even in month six so that has not been my problem. I haven’t been promoting my product as much which is where I have fallen down on the job. Was also discouraged with the direction my training community was going so it was a lot of things combined.

I wouldn’t know what to tell you about your site since I have no idea what you’ve been doing as far as promoting it. Writing consistently is just part of it, you still have to drive targeted traffic to your site and there are so many different ways you can accomplish that. I’ve gone over what I have done in earlier posts. Also, continue to provide your readers with valuable content and the rest will fall into place. Whatever you do, don’t give up.

I appreciate the comment and thanks for stopping by. :-)

Write out what you need to accomplish each day and start working on the one that’s the most important and will bring in money. If you have to, set a timer. Work for 50 minutes straight on that project and nothing else. Don’t answer the phone, email, get distracted on social media sites, nothing. When that time is up, take a 10 minute break and then start all over again. You’ll find you get more work done when you put all your attention on just one project at a time. Schedule your email and social networking sites into your day. If that’s what you want to do during that 10 min. break than that’s great. Those are my quick suggestions. Hope they help, they sure do for me. :-)
